Receiving a positive result from Covid-19 testing can be frightening and stressful. However, it’s still important to know what comes next and how you can protect yourself and those around you. The team from UrgentMED explains what you should do once you receive a positive Covid-19 antigen test so you do not spread the virus to others.

What are the Covid-19 Symptoms?

The Covid-19 symptoms you should be on the lookout for, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) include the following:

  • Fever or chills
  • Cough
  • Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
  • Fatigue
  • Muscle or body aches
  • Headache
  • New loss of taste or smell
  • Sore throat
  • Congestion or runny nose
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Diarrhea

Covid-19 symptoms can present themselves between two and 14 days after being exposed to the virus.

Stay Home Following a Covid-19 Antigen Test

One of the most important things you can do after testing positive for Covid-19 symptoms is to stay home. Only leave your home in order to get medical care or to go for a Covid-19 antigen test. You should not go to work, school, the store, to other family member’s homes, or to any other public place.

Isolate Yourself in Your Home

This might be easier said than done, but you should isolate yourself in your home from your family members. If at all possible, stay away from everyone else who lives in your home and try to use a bathroom no one else will use. This will help to limit the spread of the virus to your family members.

Monitor Your Symptoms Closely

Even though you are isolating yourself from your family members, you still need to monitor your symptoms and overall health closely. Take your temperature often and record the numbers. Take notes recording your symptoms and whether or not they have worsened or gotten better. If you call 911 because your symptoms have worsened, be sure to tell the dispatcher that you have Covid-19 symptoms, have tested positive, or are isolating due to the Coronavirus.

When Can I Be Around Others After Covid-19 Testing?

After testing positive following a Covid-19 antigen test or a Covid-19 testing kit, you can be around others if the following applies, according to the CDC:

  • 10 days have passed since you first developed symptoms
  • You have gone 24 hours without a fever and without the use of fever-reducing medications
  • Your symptoms have improved
  • 10 days have passed since your positive test

Please note that your doctor might require you to undergo multiple rounds of Covid-19 testing when exhibiting Covid-19 symptoms.
