Common Medical Procedures With No Appointment Necessary at UrgentMED

Injuries are an unfortunate reality of life. While there are numerous steps you can take to protect yourself or your child from injury, accidents might still happen when you least expect them. Even everyday activities like exercising, walking, grooming, and cooking can make you susceptible to injuries. The medical professionals at UrgentMED provide immediate, same-day care for conditions like strains, sprains, cuts, scrapes, minor burns, bites, and stings.

We perform many of the same minor surgical procedures as a hospital emergency room, but in a more convenient and affordable manner. We offer extended hours for various medical procedures and minimally invasive surgery to make it easy to get the care you need, without a time-consuming and costly trip to an ER.

Suture Removal

Some wounds need sutures or stitches to help them heal. Once they are healed, our UrgentMED urgent care team will assess the wound and remove the sutures or stitches in a safe and efficient manner. Suture removal is a fairly common procedure and does not require an appointment. We can admit you for your procedure within minutes—just walk in to one of our urgent care clinics. You don’t need to wait for weeks for an appointment with your doctor.

Wound Care

When you or someone in your family gets injured, your nearest ER is the best option if the wound is life-threatening. For less serious wounds, UrgentMED can help. Our board-certified doctors and nurse practitioners have experience in treating a wide variety of wounds using proven medical treatments. Most common wounds include cuts, scrapes, scratches, lacerations, punctures, and abrasions.

Skin Tag and Wart Removal

Skin tags are bits of skin that are usually painless and harmless. However, if they are irritated, red, bleeding, or in pain, we recommend getting them checked. They can grow on your neck, underarms, upper chest, and beneath the breasts, groin area, buttocks, and eyelids. Warts are often confused with skin tags, but are formed when you are infected with human papillomavirus (HPV). Based on the location and size of the skin tag or wart, your UrgentMED medical professionals will choose a safe surgical procedure to remove it. With our high level of care, these procedures are seamless and result in little to no downtime.

Ingrown Toe Nail

When the corner of a toenail grows inside the flesh instead of over it, it’s known as an ingrown toenail. Although this usually affects the big toe, it can develop in other toes as well. If this is the first time you’ve had an ingrown toenail, or it is mild in nature, we may prescribe warm saltwater soaks and a course of antibiotics. But if this doesn’t work, or if the condition is severe, we will remove the ingrown aspect of the nail immediately.

Laceration Repair

If you have a cut or tear in your skin, muscle, or tissue, you may need to have a laceration repair. This straightforward procedure includes cleaning, preparing, and closing an open wound. Our medical team uses one of three common procedures depending on your situation: glue, staples, or sutures.

Please note that if your wound keeps bleeding even after applying direct pressure for 10-15 minutes, you must go to an Emergency Room. You should also go to the ER if the laceration is on your face. If you need ambulatory surgery or hospital inpatient stays, you may consider a visit to a private or community hospital.

Abscess and Cyst Drainage

We perform incision and drainage (I&D) of abscesses and cysts without requiring an appointment. An abscess is an accumulation of pus, usually caused by a bacterial infection. This commonly forms on the buttocks, groin area, under the armpit, breast, and other extremities. The process to remove an abscess or a cyst is easy and only takes a few minutes. Your UrgentMED medical provider will use a local anesthetic to numb the skin, remove the pus, and pack the wound.
