Child & Adult Immunizations: Top 6 Immunizations to Stay Healthy

Posted On Nov 16th 2020 , General Health

Finding ways to stay healthy these days isn’t easy. With everything that’s going on in the world, remaining in good physical health seems nearly impossible. However, you can remain healthy by receiving recommended immunizations from your family physician. Adults and children often receive similar immunizations, but there are some different ones depending on your age. An urgent care center can administer the top six adult immunizations and child immunizations to stay healthy.

The Seasonal Flu Vaccine

The seasonal flu vaccine should be administered to all adults every single year. This vaccine is especially important for adults who have chronic health issues, for pregnant women, and for adults over the age of 50. Each year’s flu vaccine targets the strain of flu that is going around the world.

Shingles Vaccine

If you are over the age of 50, important adult immunizations include the shingles vaccine. This vaccine is recommended for healthy adults who are 50 and older, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and it can be administered at an urgent care center. This vaccine helps to protect against getting shingles and suffering from the complications associated with it.

HPV Vaccination

The HPV vaccination is an important one when looking at child immunizations. This vaccine can be administered to a child as young as 9, but it is recommended for preteens between the ages of 11 and 12. If you did not receive this vaccination during your preteen years it is recommended that you get it before you reach the age of 26.

Tdap Vaccine

Adult immunizations include the Tdap vaccine from an urgent care center. The Tdap vaccine helps to prevent whooping cough (pertussis). Tdap can be given as part of child immunizations during adolescence. However, if you did not receive it then you can get it as an older. The CDC recommends that pregnant women receive this vaccination during each pregnancy between 27 and 36 weeks of the pregnancy.

Tetanus Vaccine

child immunizations

The tetanus vaccine should be administered as part of adult immunizations every 10 years at an urgent care center. There are four vaccinations that fall under this category and they include the following:

  • Diphtheria and tetanus (DT) vaccines
  • Diphtheria, tetanus, and pertussis (DTaP) vaccines
  • Tetanus and diphtheria (Td) vaccines
  • Tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis (Tdap) vaccines

Babies and children who are younger than 7 receive the DTap or DT vaccine. Child immunizations for children older than 7 and adults include the Tdap and Td vaccines.

Pneumococcal Polysaccharide Vaccine

The Pneumococcal polysaccharide vaccine (PPSV23) helps to protect those who are 65 or older from serious pneumococcal diseases. These diseases include meningitis and bloodstream infections. If you are younger than 65 and have a diagnosis of certain health conditions, your doctor might recommend receiving this vaccination.
